A Visit to Agra : Itmad-ud-daula

Hello everyone ... This week onwards , we will take you on a historical visit to see the most beautiful buildings and art work of the mughal architecture . It is so strange that inspite of living in a historical town Agra (Agra being the capital city of the mughal era ),,, i haven't been to most of the places . So let me take you on a journey back to the 16 th century . All through the journey I shall show you the designing and inspiring architecture of the mughals right through my lens . So here we go :

Our first visit this week is Itmad-ud-daula , Agra . The tomb is located on the banks of river yamuna . It was made by emperor Jahangir's wife Nur jahan in the memory of her father Mirza ghias beg . The tomb of Itmad-ud-daula is often regarded as Baby Taj mahal .

The lovely gardens laid out in the charbagh pattern with tomb in the centre .

Built in white marble and inlaid with precious stones, the tomb exhibits a strong persian influence. It is a transition from red stone architecture to white marble .

The staircase leading to the tomb .

Beautiful Jali work done in marble which serves as a ventilation window

Cypress trees and flower pots engraved in semi precious stone adorning the walls of the tomb

Another beautiful work of engraving on walls featuring a lovely pattern

And there is the pretty winter sunset

Trees protecting the back gate of the tomb ... standing tall , telling the tale of time

Beautiful carving done in redstone

Lovely wooden door surrounded with white geometric patterns and wall framing

Beautiful floral stylized arabesque and geometrical designs
have been depicted on the whole exterior inlay and mosaic techniques , in various pleasing tints and tones .Wine-vase, dish-and-cup, cypress honey suckle guldasta and such other Iranian motifs, typical of the art of Jehangir have been used.
